What Do Your Oil Bill and Variable Annuities Have in Common?

Now that the heating season is in full swing I don’t want you to choose between heating and eating this winter.
When I got my last oil bill I noticed that I was paying $6.44/gal. Even though I don’t have a contract I thought that was high. I hate oil contracts because if you make out on the deal in one year, you almost always lose out the next – so no need for a contract – a service contract you need but not one for oil.
Now that the price of oil is so high, I always feel like the oilman is the Grim Reaper after he puts the bill in my mailbox.
This lead me to do some research and I found a company called Heat USA that helps teachers find the lowest-cost heating oil in their area. They only allow highly rated companies to join their network of oil providers.
After calling them and talking with them I switched from my current oil provider to the one that works in their network. The cost of the oil was only $4.32/gal. The service contract was only $35 for 2 years or $17.50/year. That also saved me an additional $223/year.
This is going to be over $2K in savings for me this winter. I don’t know about you but I would rather keep the money in my family’s pocket than give it to the Grim Reaper.
So if you’re overpaying for oil – you probably are – give them a call and ask for Christopher and of course, tell them you’re a teacher and you would like to reduce the cost of your oil bill.
This is kind of like being in an expensive investment product like a variable annuity. Unfortunately, many if not most teachers are in them. If your investment provider is AXA/Equitable, Voya, MetLife, NY Life, or Brighthouse Financial then you are in an overpriced variable annuity.
I could probably save you a lot more than I saved on my oil bill this winter by switching out of that annuity and putting you into Vanguard index funds. Of course, the savings would be reinvested every year, and when you factor in the magic of compounding interest the savings can be astronomical.
If you need any help switching out of your annuity just contact me. I’m a teacher first and foremost, not a pushy salesman. I specialize in helping teachers with all their investments.
Sincerely,
Kevin Donovan, EA
